Ellijay has three wonderful rivers running through it. Unfortunately both the beauty and usability of these rivers are hampered by three large sewer pipes. Two pipes run across the surface and one is just inches below the water. These pipes make the rivers unsuitable for recreation (canoes, kayaks or tubers), are eyesores, and present a potential pollution danger during flooding. One of the pipes has broken, spilling copious amounts of sewerage into the river and finally flowing into Carters Lake.

SOS is a community effort to improve our rivers by submerging the sewer pipes thereby turning our rivers into community assists. We are a non-profit, charitable organization. The goal is to do this without burdening the county taxpayers by using grants and if necessary fund raisers.
We have spoken with the Water Authority, the Ellijay City Council, and the mayor of Ellijay. Our goal is to gain community support throughout Gilmer County.
